The Styling Series by Nicobar
Inside a home built on stories Featuring MuseLAB
In collaboration with
Design Pataki

IN CHAPTER 8
Meet Anjali Mody
Welcome to Chapter 9 of The Styling Series by Nicobar, where we meet designers and creators whose personal style carries into the spaces they design and inhabit.
This chapter takes us inside the Bombay home of Huzefa Rangwala, who runs the architectural design practice MuseLAB with Jasem Pirani. Every shelf, ledge and corner holds something with a story behind it, and the result feels like a private gallery that happens to be lived in. Into it, we brought Nicobar textiles, ceramics and accents, and gave them a place among the collection.

STORIES COLLECTED
“When you’re collecting, you’re collecting stories.
When you’re decorating, you’re decorating to
fill a space.”
Huzefa isn’t fond of the word decoration.
To him, it has no permanence. What he keeps
instead are objects that hold a memory, a joke
or a person, the kind of things that get friends
talking when they come over.
“I think we’re suckers for good stories, whether
they’re funny or sad.”

A LITTLE MUSEUM
Some of the objects in the home were gathered almost as a little museum for Huzefa’s father. One of them is a light with a small angel sitting on top, which stands for his father, and three figures beside it for his mother, his sister and himself.
“You will see a lot of tiny details, tiny objects, because it allows you to zoom in.”
The home asks you to slow down and look closely, from the shelves to the smallest things on them.

EVERY CORNER, A COMPOSITION
“Every corner is a composition.”
They say they thrive on chaos, and this home is where they calm it: each arrangement built on purpose, each piece chosen to last. They see every object here as a probable heirloom.
“You’re hoping that the value you see in it,
and the joy it gives you, is what you pass on.”
